★ Friday Night ★

The whole town in the bleachers

In a lot of American towns the high school football game on Friday night is the biggest event of the week, and has been for generations. Stores close early, the band marches in, the lights come on over the field and the town is in the stands. In parts of Texas a high school stadium can seat more than twenty thousand people.

The journalist H. G. Bissinger spent a season in 1988 with the team in Odessa, Texas and wrote Friday Night Lights about it: a book about what it means to be seventeen and carry an entire town's hopes on your back. It became a film and a television series, and gave the whole culture its name.

Mud on the jersey, ball about to leave his hand. In black and white it has the look of a front-page photograph.

Important time to show support for our country

My office has slowly turned into an American museum. I started with the Iwo Jima painting, but now I've got a full wall of historical American posters. Quality is great and easy to hang.
