Boardwalk Nights $225
★ The Boardwalk ★

It started as a way to keep sand out of the hotels

Atlantic City laid the first boardwalk in 1870 for an entirely practical reason: hotel owners and the railroad were tired of guests tracking beach sand into the lobbies and carriages. Within a few decades the plank walk had become the point of the trip.

Everything around it was invented for the same crowds. The Ferris wheel was George Ferris's answer to the Eiffel Tower, built for the Chicago World's Fair of 1893. Machine-spun cotton candy, then sold as fairy floss, was a hit at the St. Louis fair of 1904, and it was co-invented, of all people, by a dentist.

Neon, a spinning wheel, the smell of fried dough and a stick of pink sugar in the foreground. It's the most cheerful piece in the collection and works best somewhere people actually spend their evenings.

Important time to show support for our country

My office has slowly turned into an American museum. I started with the Iwo Jima painting, but now I've got a full wall of historical American posters. Quality is great and easy to hang.
