A working cowhand's day started before light and ran as long as the cattle needed it to. Checking water, riding fence, pulling a calf out of a creek bank. None of it was his. The ride back at dusk was the one stretch of the day nobody could ask anything of him.

It is also the hour painters wait for. When the sun sits low, its light passes through far more atmosphere on the way in, the blues scatter out and what reaches the ground is warm and gold, with shadows stretched three times the length of the horse.

It is a warm piece and a calm one. It sits well in a den, a study or above a fireplace, anywhere the room is meant for the end of the day rather than the start of it.
