Eight Seconds $225
★ The Rodeo ★

A contest between ranch hands that became a sport

Rodeo started as bragging rights. Cowboys from neighboring outfits met in cattle towns and bet on who could rope fastest or stay on the worst horse, and by the 1880s towns like Pecos, Texas and Prescott, Arizona were charging admission and handing out prizes. Both still claim to have held the first one.

Bull riding came later and became the event people stand up for. The rule is simple: stay on for eight seconds, one-handed, and the ride gets scored. Eight seconds doesn't sound like much until you watch it. A bucking bull can weigh well over 1,500 pounds and spin, drop and kick all at once, and most rides end early.

The crowd behind the chutes, the dust, the rider leaning into the spin. It's the whole sport in one frame.

Important time to show support for our country

My office has slowly turned into an American museum. I started with the Iwo Jima painting, but now I've got a full wall of historical American posters. Quality is great and easy to hang.
