Lambeau Field — detail of the artwork
★ Stadiums of America ★

Thirteen below zero, one quarterback sneak, and the Ice Bowl

Lambeau Field opened on September 29, 1957, as City Stadium, and the Packers beat the Bears 21-17 in the first game there. It took its present name on August 3, 1965, honoring Earl "Curly" Lambeau, the team's founder, who had died two months earlier. It is the oldest continually operating stadium in the NFL.

Its best-known afternoon was December 31, 1967, the NFL Championship Game against the Dallas Cowboys. The temperature at kickoff was about 13 below zero, and the wind chill averaged around 48 below. With about thirteen seconds left, Bart Starr scored on a quarterback sneak, and Green Bay won 21-17 and went on to win Super Bowl II.

The capacity today is 81,441, and the team that plays here is owned by shareholders, many of them fans, rather than by a single owner.

Seen from above, the stadium is an oval bowl drawn in two greens, dark on the upper ring and lighter on the lower, around a field with gold end zones. The entrance buildings sit in gray-green at the bottom, and the title runs across the top in spaced capitals with "Green Bay, Wisconsin" beneath.

Important time to show support for our country

My office has slowly turned into an American museum. I started with the Iwo Jima painting, but now I've got a full wall of historical American posters. Quality is great and easy to hang.
