Beaver Stadium — detail of the artwork
★ Stadiums of America ★

Moved half a mile in 1960, now more than 106,000 seats

Beaver Stadium in State College, Pennsylvania, has been the home of Penn State football since 1960. It is named for James A. Beaver, a Union colonel and brevet brigadier general who lost a leg at Ream's Station in 1864, then served as governor of Pennsylvania from 1887 to 1891 and as a trustee of the university.

The stadium began life as New Beaver Field in 1909. In the 1959–60 offseason it was taken apart, moved about half a mile east and reassembled, opening at its present site on September 17, 1960. Expansions followed: an upper deck over the north end zone in 1991, another over the south end in 2001.

After the 2001 expansion it ranked second in the country behind Michigan Stadium, and it still seats more than 106,000. It is also known for the White Out, when the crowd dresses in white; the student section's all-white turnout against Ohio State in 2005 drew national attention.

The print shows the stadium from directly above on a cream ground: a bowl of navy seating closing in on a green field striped for the yard lines, with navy end zones, and pale gray roads and lots trailing off at the edges. The title is in navy capitals, with State College, Pennsylvania in small type beneath.

Important time to show support for our country

My office has slowly turned into an American museum. I started with the Iwo Jima painting, but now I've got a full wall of historical American posters. Quality is great and easy to hang.
