Kyle Field — detail of the artwork
★ Stadiums of America ★

The field where students stand for the entire game

Texas A&M's board set aside the ground in College Station as a permanent athletic field on November 11, 1904. The first football game there was played in 1905, a 29-0 win over the Houston YMCA, and the first concrete stadium followed in 1927. The field is named for Edwin Jackson Kyle, a horticulture professor who paid $650 for the original grandstand out of his own pocket.

The tradition that defines it started on January 2, 1922, in Dallas. Texas A&M was playing top-ranked Centre College in the Dixie Classic with a thin bench, and coach Dana X. Bible called E. King Gill down from the press box to suit up. Gill stood on the sideline, ready to go in. The Aggies won, 22-14. Today the students stand for the whole game, as the "12th Man."

The stadium was rebuilt in 2014 and 2015, and its capacity is now 102,733.

The plan is drawn from above in maroon and gray on a cream ground. A rounded rectangle of seating wraps a green field with maroon end zones, the outer ring picked out in maroon, and the roads and buildings around it are faint gray shapes. "Kyle Field" runs across the top in spaced capitals, with "College Station, Texas" beneath.

Important time to show support for our country

My office has slowly turned into an American museum. I started with the Iwo Jima painting, but now I've got a full wall of historical American posters. Quality is great and easy to hang.
