★ The Statue of Liberty ★

A gift from France, a national mammal, and a disputed burger

The woman holding the torch is the Statue of Liberty, dedicated in New York Harbor on October 28, 1886, with President Grover Cleveland presiding. She was a gift from the people of France, designed by the sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi, and she stands 151 feet tall.

Emma Lazarus's sonnet “The New Colossus,” with the line “I lift my lamp beside the golden door,” was added on a bronze plaque inside the pedestal in 1903.

The animal under her is a bison, which Congress named the national mammal in a law President Obama signed on May 9, 2016. The food in her other hand is a cheeseburger, whose origin several American towns claim and none has settled.

The scene is all blue, orange and yellow: Liberty in orange sunglasses and a star-covered jacket, her torch thrust up into a burst of sparks, a burger in her left hand, seated on a navy bison. Two jets draw contrails across the sky, eagles circle, and tall towers rise at the bottom, with AMERICA and No.1 stacked across the top in yellow and red.

Important time to show support for our country

My office has slowly turned into an American museum. I started with the Iwo Jima painting, but now I've got a full wall of historical American posters. Quality is great and easy to hang.
