AMERICA F YEAH — detail of the artwork
★ Team America (2004) ★

The phrase started as a joke in a marionette movie

The phrase on this piece started as a punchline. It comes from a song in Team America: World Police, a 2004 comedy made with marionettes by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, and the song was a send-up of loud, flag-waving rock anthems.

In the years since, it has been used both ways, as a joke and straight.

The eagle has a longer history than the slogan. Congress approved the design of the Great Seal on June 20, 1782, with a bald eagle holding an olive branch in one talon and thirteen arrows in the other.

A long-haired, bearded man in a star-spangled top hat and sunglasses rides an eagle with a star-studded chest, one fist clenched and the other hand holding a small flag. He shouts the title phrase from a speech bubble at the upper left, and behind him the sky is a burst of orange, yellow and cream with flag stripes bending through it.

Important time to show support for our country

My office has slowly turned into an American museum. I started with the Iwo Jima painting, but now I've got a full wall of historical American posters. Quality is great and easy to hang.
