USS Johnston laid smoke, turned toward the enemy and ran in through the shell splashes to torpedo range. Her fish blew the bow off the heavy cruiser Kumano. She kept fighting for two more hours with her engines shot up and half her guns gone.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eJohnston sank a little after ten. Of 327 men aboard, 141 survived.
